South Metro Rugby - Home of the Tigers!

South Metro Rugby Club welcomes players in grades 9-12. We are not directly affiliated with any particular school; although, we were founded out of South High in Minneapolis and the majority of our players go to South & Roosevelt in Minneapolis. We draw players from North, Edison, and cities all over the metro, from Orono to Robbinsdale to Roseville to Camden.

We play most of our home games at either Columbia Park (home of Metropolis Rugby Club!) or Parade Stadium. Most games are either Friday night or Saturday mornings. See Schedule for Details.

We practice from 4pm-6pm at Lake Nokomis Park on Cedar Ave & about 57th on Tuesdays & Thursdays. There is also optional touch rugby played there on Mondays from 6pm to 8pm.

We have boys teams playing in both the U17 and U19 levels in the Minnesota High School Rugby League. Each game is played with 15 players, per team, on the field at one time. Games are 70 minutes long with a 2 minute break in between halves.

Rugby is played with minimal 'gear'. All that's needed is team shorts, team socks, rugby or soccer cleats, and a mouthguard. Jerseys are provided by the team, but players are expected to bring their own water for safety sake.

Rugby is constantly moving so there is plenty of playing time for everyone. While some preseason and non league matches involve open substitutions, a league match allows up to 23 players on each roster.
